Importance of product attributes
Product attribute fields are all the fields used to enter specifications about your product. Attributes allow customers to find your products through Jumia search and filters. Attributes are important to provide a clear shopping experience to customers and increase your sales.
Product attributes per category
Attributes fields available for your product depend on your product category. Each category is associated with a set of attributes. Some attributes are common across categories (ex: color, dimensions), while other attributes are category specific (ex: screen size).
Attributes data validations
To ensure consistency in the product attributes and provide a good shopping experience comparing product specifications, some attributes use data validation rules.
There are different types of attribute fields (text, number, date, date time, checkbox, list of values). The values accepted in a field can be restricted by min/max length, character type, decimal places, percentages, min/max number value, format, list of values.
If your entry violates a data validation rule, you will see an error message prompting you to correct your entry. Error message appear on all product creation methods:
- If you are using ‘Add a Product’ tool, the attribute field to be corrected is highlighted in red with an error message.
- If you are using the template file upload to create or update products, an error message will appear when uploading the file. You will be able to download an error report file in the ‘import history’ section of import/export menu.
- If you are using the API, an error message will be given in the API response.

Product Dimensions (L x W x H cm)
Dimensions significantly influence customers purchase decisions. While size is the overall dimension of an item, certain categories of products are scaled by dimension.
Our customers use the metric system: meters (m), centimeters (cm) to read dimensions.
3 main dimensions are needed to measure an object, Length (L), Width (W), and Height (H):
- Length (L) is the longest horizontal (flat) side
- Width/depth (W/D) is the shortest horizontal (flat) side
- Height (H) is the vertical side
The measurement for product sizing and attribute field may vary according to the category of the products. These fields may be a drop-down option or a text field as part of the specification information required.
