GTIN barcode product requirement   GTIN_barcode is a mandatory field at product creation, for all products that have a barcode printed on their packaging.    The list of brands and categories for which gtin_barcode field is mandatory can be found here   Each GTIN barcode is unique for a product. Therefore, you cannot create more than one product with the same gtin barcode. If you try to create a product with a gtin_barcode that already exists for another product in your Jumia account, you will receive an error. You should use the existing product for this gtin_barcode, or delete it if the listing has a mistake.    How to update GTIN barcode data for your product
  • Using Vendor Center interface, you can navigate to: Manage product > edit product details > variations > gtin_barcode field
  • Using file upload you will find a gtin_barcode column
  • Using API you can update the gtin_barcode data for your seller SKU
  What is a GTIN Barcode?   A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is a unique identifier for a product, recognized internationally.  It is printed as numbers and bars on product packaging.    4 types of GTIN exist:   
  • GTIN-12 (UPC-A): this is a 12-digit number used primarily in North America.
  • GTIN-8 (EAN/UCC-8): this is an 8-digit number used predominately outside of North America.
  • GTIN-13 (EAN/UCC-13): this is a 13-digit number used predominately outside of North America.
  • GTIN-14 (EAN/UCC-14 or ITF-14): this is a 14-digit number used to identify trade items at various packaging levels.
  Why use GTIN Barcodes?   GTINs are a common language for trading partners worldwide to uniquely identify items You can search existing listings by GTIN before manually creating a new SKU, and benefit from:
  • Better sales, with product grouping which will ensure fair competition between all vendors and better visibility for the best offers
  • Simpler operations and finance reconciliation thanks to this unique product ID
  • More visibility online with better SEO search engine ranking
  How to get your product’s GTIN?   If your product already has a GTIN barcode  
  • Ask the brand owner/manufacturer to share their detailed price list or catalog with product barcodes (GTINs).
    • Note: Barcodes (GTINs) are different from Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) and Model number.
  • Read or Scan the barcode (GTIN) on the product or product packaging
  If your product does not have a barcode  
  • GS1 is the official GTINs and EAN/UPC barcodes provider worldwide.
  • Always make sure you get GTIN barcodes directly from an official Gs1 entity, to ensure your GTINs will be valid.
  • Applying for a GTIN involves providing information about your product, such as its name, description, and packaging.
